Abstract
The management models of organizations have been based on the search for quality and improvement of work processes. In this context, it is important to know the process to improve the services provided through the use of techniques and tools that aid in the understanding and analysis of existing processes. Based on models and methodologies for maturity assessment, organizations can check the level of development processes and identify opportunities for improvement. The present study aimed to analyze the level of maturity of the purchasing process of bibliographic materials developed in the university libraries of a Federal University library system, using the method of single case study. To survey the activities of the purchasing process the interview was conducted, whose script is based on literature review, with the process operators of a university library, the largest in terms of size and volume of collection. In addition, the process mapping was produced. From the activities raised in the buying process, have been proposed items on the questionnaire to analyze the perception of the maturity of the purchasing process of bibliographic materials developed in the university libraries system, which is the focus of this study. Based on the review of literature on maturity models, was adopted as parameter of answers to the formulated questionnaire items, the five maturity levels of the CMM model and five points of the Likert scale of the CDMM model. With the process mapping, the routine and the details of the activities were laid out, identifying difficulties encountered in the process. The analysis of the perception of maturity of the buying process of the university libraries of UFF showed that most of the activities of selection and organization of basic and complementary bibliographies of courses, held in the libraries of UFF, present maturity levels above N1 (level 1). This shows that the procedures used in libraries to purchase books are defined, planned and controlled. However, there is still a considerable number of aspects, which are subject to improvements, which were presented at the conclusion of this research. This study sought to contribute to the continuous improvement of book purchase process, aiming to achieve better results, productivity and quality in services and products.
