Resumen
This study discusses the weight of race and social class variables on the distribution of the students of the UFMT. This discussion is supported by two analyses. One analysis consists of a quantitative analysis based on UFMT ethnical-racial census primary data, realized in 2003. The other one is a qualitative analysis, realized using interviews with white, brown and black students from some courses. This research shows that the major of the students from this institution, independent from skin color or race, is in the low income group. The brown and black ones are the most prominent in this group. Also, we could observe that there are two kind of brown people at UFMT, one closest to black people, and other closest to white people. The interviews reveal that the students firstly identify the social and economic discrimination. The racial discrimination is perceived later, result of a long mature process.
