Informação e comunicação em redes eletrônicas: para além da biblioteca virtual de estudos culturais

Abstract

Description and analyses of the Cultural Studies Virtual Library, since its foundation, developing process and configuration, aiming to measure the extension of its value for research in Cultural Studies and also as a possible way of expression of social movements. The project assumes that the Virtual Library constitutes an important source for Cultural Studies researchers due to its conditions not only of supporting and disseminating academic work on this subject, and also the activities of organizations and social groups known as social movements, but promoting and facilitating communication between researchers and members of these organizations. The theoretical principles lie upon some concepts related to Information Science and Cultural Studies, as cyberspace, net, virtuality, interactivity and relevant information. Methods of qualitative nature have been used: bibliogr aphic and documental analysis, interviews, besides an examination of the site, based upon the propositions of Tefko Saracevic. Finally, suggestions towards the adoption of new web resources, mainly those that can contribute to the implementation of interaction among users are proposed.
