Avaliação de linguagem de indexação aplicada à informação jornalística: estudo de caso

Abstract

Controlled vocabulary in newspapers organizations assume growing importance since it provides consistency in information retrieval and, as a consequence, business achievements. Indexing language used for newspaper information representation at Centro de Documentação e Informação (CDI) of Infoglobo Comunicações has never been object of analysis or reflection, a necessary practice since the information disseminated embraces different domains. Sport section was selected as sample for the study. Principles of compatibilization were employed as a method to evaluate the controlled vocabulary with that of users in their queries. This method was selected as a basis for comparison wit the controlled vocabulary, since it provides criteria of evaluation. The comparison showed the need of including new terms, gave elements for evaluation of the controlled vocabulary as well as an analysis of the implications of the current software on the controlled vocabulary.
