Abstract: This work presents a systemized set of bibliographic and iconographic studies of the of production process metropolitan space of Rio De Janeiro, Aiming the appropriation the processes and use of nature a acquired territory. Thus, the course of our investigation demanded a look at a more including space-time scale to focus on the place in study in its historical complexity. Facing such methodological premise it was necessary to elaborate a geographic reader that, in spite of being synthetic, allowed to identify the excellent phenomenon in the appropriation process and the use of the nature, in different moments of the territorial order of the Brazilian society, specially the one that was established occupying the area named recôncavo da Guanabara since century XVI, settling its existence in the following centuries. This work is about specificities of the process of Guanabara territorial order a base to understand conditions and geographic conflicts in present, specially the socio-environment questions that are current in the metropolitan urban. We intended to answer how and why the city production (and metropole) is historically inscribed as destruction of nature. We have tried to unmask Rio de Janeiro process of metropolization and how the lowered ones of Guanabara were incorporated as territories dominated by mercantile logic and, way, the degradation of nature became inherent. We placed in screen how and why immense areas covered by mangroves got survive. We present contradictions that emerged in the process of Rio de Janeiro metropolization before the new paradigms that have emerged, from the discussion on the necessity of environment preservation since 1970´s. This methodological propose to historically reconstruct the phenomenon made us to study the process formation, having in mind that concepts of nature also in changes according to each moment of the society. Even so, as we will see, there is a permanent rejection to see Nature as an object to be conquered. It made us think that the study on appropriation and social use of mangrove by collectors and crab fishing communities must be included in larger contexts of configuration.
