HEITOR VILLA-LOBOS, O MÚSICO EDUCADOR
Abstract
The dissertation discusses the ideas of Heitor Villa-Lobos, contextualizing them historically. From years of 1930, the conductor put into practice the coral society project, whose goal was to teach music in schools, arouse civic pride and unite the nation, which would sing in one voice. Presenting his monumental aesthetic, Villa-Lobos entered into a group of intellectuals who, from the State support, saw the possibility of putting in practice their projects. For achieving that, he worked intensely organizing choral society spectacles, which was attend by numerous important engaged politicians at the period. As a director of SEMA (Superintendency of Artistic and Musical Education), the conductor organized the administrative structure which was necessary to the implementation of his ideal. I plan to recover the Villa-Lobos thought as an educator, and analyze the relationship between the State and Intellectuals from 1932 to 1945 using the concepts and methods provided by History of Ideas and the Renewed Political History.
