Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to recognize standards of behavior of the participants of conversational activities in lessons of Portuguese for foreigners in Brazilian classes. We present the conversational activity as a composition of two layers: the didactic and the relational ones. In the didactic layer, in which participants aim to observe and to practise aspects of the target language, we analyze how they negotiate information and provide each other chances of development of oral comprehension and production abilities. In the relational layer, in which the participants use the language they are studying to communicate and present themselves displaying their own world views, we observe how the identity features shown by individuals or assigned to them are negotiated
