Abstract
This dissertation will approach the perspectives of masters, slaves and manumitted
slaves in crises advance under slavish system by the lordly familiar relationships and the
resources like peculium in the second half of the Nineteenth-Century in Brazil (1871
1888 ). It will be focused in a variety of strategies which slaves with their families
appropriated, to confront the moral power of masters, mainly after the publication of Lei
do Ventre Livre in terms of Barbacena.
On the other hand, it will be considered a reflection about the groups of farms and
relatives of familiar s farmers/businessman and the dependence with middle and short
farmers, and with manumitted slaves families giving an specific sense at the end of the
century XIX at Abolição da Escravatura , as well as to the restructure of paternalism
forms in this place. The research was made and based on the analyses of supporting actions
and liberty actions occurred in Barbacena, testaments, inventory, libertation, buying and
selling slaves books, electoral register copies from Barbacena s Camara (1877 and 1878),
contacts of jobs made between local farmers and manumitted slaves and the payment
acquittance to the ex-prisoners(Slaves) from the farms after the Abolition.
