Abstract
The objective of this research was to discuss the relationships between the center and the
margins of the communication in Brazil, starting from the journalism. We worked with the
idea of a geopolitics of the Brazilian press, in the which the difference between the journalism
produced in the southeast area and the regional journalism, edited in the several parts of the
country, It concerns the distribution of power among the center spheres and margin, that it
interferes in the relationship among the different media. To sustain such proposal, It took
place a compared study concerning the framing adopted in the covering of the case Lunus
(political scandal that involved the governor of Maranhão, Roseana Sarney, in the presidential
elections of 2002) in two vehicles: O Globo, newspaper of national circulation of the
Marinho s family, and O Estado do Maranhão, regional newspaper of the Sarney s family. A
corpus of 297 matters was analyzed, collected in the collections of the Benedito Leite Library,
in Maranhão, in the National Library and in the Public Library of the State of Rio de Janeiro,
from July to November of 2008. It was verified that as much the national vehicle as the
regional they defended political and private postures to the detriment of the public's
information right. It was shown the limits as soon as among the national and regional
journalism are flexible and that these concepts can be inverted in agreement with the context
in which the vehicles are inserted.
