Abstract: In this paper I did a critical-interpretative analysis of the relationship between illness and literature in the works of Cesar Aira, Gonçalo M. Tavares, Paul Auster and Sebastião Uchoa Leite, aiming to investigate how each of these writers has interpreted that experience. Through the notions of scene and scenario, I have identified the recurrence of certain images windows and doors and made a relation between them and the experience of death, illustrated from another notion, of the threshold. This choice made possible to place the discussion of writing as the figuration of subjectivity (the scenes of the illness), as part of the space where this process happens (the scenarios of disease), and especially the understanding of literature as a vital lifeline
