Abstract
This work consists in an analysis of the artistic representations of foreign stereotypes of Brazilian society in literature and cinema. In the literary field, the romance chosen as the object of study was the Nelson Motta s Ao som do mar e à luz do céu profundo. This is because the book features characters who see the Rio de Janeiro 1950 s society in a extremely stereotyped way. In parallel, it presents a narrator who adopts na uncritical attitude against this vision, and Brazilian characters that reinforce such stereotypes. To illustrate the cinematic representations, was examined the Lucia Murat s documentary, Olhar Estrangeiro, which, through interviews with actors, directors and producers, tries to uncover the stereotypes behind the foreign films that talk about Brazil.
