Abstract
The motivation can influence on academic performance and contribute to the
reduction of the dropout rate in engineering courses. From the involvement and participation
of students in academic projects offered by the University, this research aims to analyze how
this participation can motivate, influence and contribute to the improvement of academic
performance. Through the topics quality, innovation and motivation, applied to education, an
exploratory research, descriptive and explanatory, by making a literature review and
documentary research. With the methodology, the case study at the School of Engineering of
Fluminense Federal University (UFF), through the academic programs offered and the use of
questionnaires, a field survey was developed and rated for qualitative and quantitative. With
the data analysis it is possible to conclude that the participation in the projects offered by the
University makes students feel more motivated and integrated in their courses, developing
interest for the research and intellectual growth.
