Percepção sobre saúde e saúde bucal em uma população de idosos no Município de Araruama-RJ

Abstract

The aim of this study is to assess people's understanding about their oral health and the expectations about the future. This is a qualitative and quantitative research which data collection was performed by using specific forms of interviews with 24 elderly institution's "Centre for the Elderly Day" and "Support Homes," Premises for the day stay the same, where activities are carried out physical, industrial, recreational, community and education for citizenship in the City of Araruama under the responsibility of the Municipal Elderly and Development of the City of Araruama. The data collected were tabulated and presented in tables and graphs. The questionnaire responses revealed that 83% of respondents were edentulous and did not associate the lack of teeth to the quality of life. Lack of awareness of basic needs for a better quality of life can be attributed to poor education and lack of financial resources. The interpretation of results leads us to admit that despite a few measures have already been adopted for the benefit of the elderly, they are poorly assimilated by the population studied, and the range of oral health care is still incipient.
