Abstract: It is a participant research with a qualitative approach on the educational and participatory act nurse with fishermen of Guanabara Bay - RJ, Brazil. Surrounding the river Maribondo located in São Gonçalo - RJ - Brazil, there is a colony of fishermen in the Community Cassinú. In previous studies in that river, regarding aspects of microbiological and physico - chemical values were detected high degree of faecal contamination. For culminate in Guanabara Bay , RJ , the river ends up contributing to the pollution of the same . The fishermen are at risk of accidents and diseases , because of the physical effort they undergo , weather changes and contact with pathogens in an environment without sanitation. Accidental structures of the fish itself may become a gateway for micro - organisms present in contaminated water delaying wound healing. Thinking in educational technology called peer education and its interfaces with popular education Freire, from the dialog and assumption of subject, understands the importance of the application of the same with this group of workers. The research has as objectives to characterize the working conditions and health of these fishermen and discuss a proposal participatory health care from the Peer Education with a focus on skin wounds. For the technique of data collection was used semistructured interviews, participant observation and group activity. Of the 35 participants 88.6 % are fishermen from Rio de Janeiro, have an average 2.3 children , 3.4 dependents , 34.3 % have primary education first full monthly income prevalent , 42.9 % between 1 and 2 minimum wages . The average workload of daily work is 11.8, the main selling point are middlemen (88.6 %) , come in contact with water during the entire fishing (85.7 %). 71.4% using the PPE used in part. The main complaints / diseases mentioned by the fishermen were back pain (11.4%), knee pain (5.7 %) and hypertension (5.7 %), and digestive problems , skin cancer, among others . Injuries have occurred in 91.4 % of respondents at some time fishing. The hands and legs are the body regions most affected, with application of substances such as coffee powder, sea water and eye Catfish s secretion on site. The results and reports of fishermen reveal their poor health and work, lack of social protection, risk of injury, loss of emotional and physical functions. Participant observation revealed the richness and potential of the fishing activity, giving visibility to the fishermen, who despite the challenges facing the satisfaction and pleasure out in the profession, which persists for years and provides them freedom of expression and moments of relaxation .Moreover, the reflection of participants' speech, participant observation and the construction of knowledge in the light of group activity Freire, through educational and participatory act, allowed a better perception and understanding of the importance of education in conjunction with the environment, health and work .
